What the ffffffff??

There is a song called Crush from a singer called Taryn Southern that bugs the crap out of me.  She is saying she has a crush on someone in the song, but the rest of the lyrics basically point to a sick obsession.  I can’t figure out why any radio station would play this garbage.  This is exactly the behavior we don’t want kids thinking is okay. Here are the lyrics (apologies in advance for the poor grammar..it’s copied from a lyrics site):

I screen saved all the photos from your family vacations
I checked out all your Spotify recommendations
Followed you on Twitter and Instagram too
is there anywhere else I can find you….

Every 15 minutes
I’m refreshing your page
refreshing your page…..

It was love at first sight except you tried to ignore /me, you were playin’ hard to get
Now I want to be your girlfriend But now you can’t ignore me ‘cuz I found you on the/ internet.

Now I always know who you’re with, where you are. and what you’re doing
I just wish it was me that you were pursuing
The funny thing is you haven’t got a clue
That i’ve got a crush on you.

I get notified you’ve posted on Facebook
sure enough, there’s a new photo on your wall
Within a few minutes, i see some blonde chick liked it (yeah some blonde chick liked it)
I bet that she’s your late night booty call

you send out a tweet that today was the great day
but how it could be without me there
i bet it’s because you’re sleeping with that blonde chick on Facebook
the one with the bleached peroxide hair

CHORUS

Every 15 minutes
I’m refreshing your page
refreshing your page…..

It was love at first sight
but you tried to ignore me
yoyu were playing hard to get
Now I wanna be your girlfriend
but you can’t ignore me
cuz I found you on the internet
Now I always know who you’re with, where you are and what you’re doing
I just wish it was me that you were pursuing
and the funny thing is, you haven’t got a clue
that i’ve got a crush you.

BRIDGE
You’ll never know the pain I feel
as I watch you from afar
I can’t deny that my love is real
I even know who your friends of friends of friends are…

I never knew how bad love could hurt
until I put you on my google alert
every post every tweet it’s so hard to see
that it’s not about me, not about me…

CHORUS

Every 15 minutes
I’m refreshing your page
refreshing your page…..

It was love at first sight
but you tried to ignore me
yoyu were playing hard to get
Now I wanna be your girlfriend
but you can’t ignore me
cuz I found you on the internet
Now I always know who you’re with, where you are and what you’re doing
I just wish it was me that you were pursuing
and the funny thing is, you haven’t got a clue
that i’ve got a crush you.

oh crap. you just blocked me
from viewing your Facebook crap
you just blocked me from your twitter too
you sent me an email to leave you alone
but guess what, i still like you.

Yikes. Scary.

(And I probably sound like my parents.)

Masterpiece of Musical Theatre

Why am I such a huge fan of the band Marianas Trench?

I first heard their song Celebrity Skin in 2009 and then caught a clip of Acadia.  Both songs really struck a chord with me and I began to dive deeper into their albums.  On Masterpiece Theatre, there are three songs titled Masterpiece Theatre (I, II, and III) and they seem to weave a tale of heartache, hope, and resilience.  I have been listening to their newer album Ever After, and from the title track to the end of the album, it’s another amazing set of songs.

I’ve also caught their videos…and this is what blows me away.  They tell a really good story.  I’ve lined them up in order below and hopefully, you’ll be as amazed as I was after seeing them all.

it finishes with this:

I thought it was absolutely brilliant.

We’re baaaaack…

Maui was a blast.  Many of you may not know this, but I’ve never left the contingent before, so this was a treat.  Flying for 9 hours sucked, but at least we had some layover time to stretch.

Maui itself was amazing.  It was in the 80’s the whole time, but it felt great because the Pacific wind really cooled things down and erased the humidity.

We had a full week of volcano hiking, waterfall searching, climbing volcanic rock by the sea, zip lining, and eating wonderful food.  It was everything I imagined a honeymoon would be.

My wife and I returned yesterday and after another 9 hour flight (I slept only three of those hours) and being awake until 5 afternoon, I crashed and slept for 13 hours.

Its back to the real world tomorrow and I am revived and ready for work.  I know I have so much to get caught up on at work (and here too), so it will take some time, but I will get back on track.

All in all, the wedding was wonderful, the honeymoon was perfect, and things in life are incredible.  Here are a few honeymoon and wedding pics:

I have a ton more pictures, but I am sharing them with the friends and families that joined us on our special day.  I am thankful so many people came and joined us for the event.

Stick around, more posts to come..

Seahouse Maui

image

The Seahouse Restaurant in Maui is an experience everyone must have in their life.  Located off of Napili Bay in the northwestern corner of Maui, this jewel of an establishment sits on the the calm waters of the bay by a golf course, the Ritz Carlton, and the Napili Kai resort.

The service was excellent from the start.  We showed up early for our dinner reservations (they start dinner at 530 and you’ll want reservations), and they seated us at the bar tables, which have a direct side view into the bay.  Steph and I had a few drinks and were informed that our table was ready, so we made our way to the dining area.  The server pretty much took it from there.  We informed her we’d be eating from the gluten free menu and she not only noted it, she offered some recommendations as well.  Steph and I ordered the same meal (mine was from the regular menu) and she said it was actually the same meal, they just use a dedicated GF menu (probably to show how seriously they take it) for the non-gluten folks.  She swung Steph’s meal as my meal and got us each a free salad and dessert (mango sorbet, which she also said was gluten free).

The meal was excellent.  Steak, prawns, fish, veggies and potatoes were perfectly prepared to our liking.  Steph found the sorbet a bit sweet, but it hit the spot for me.  The entire experience was capped off by excellent service.  Our waters were always full and we didn’t once have to wait to order a drink.  The prices were excellent too and I am surprised that this restaurant seems to be a GF secret in Maui.

Cap the night off with watching a beautiful sunset on Napili Bay and you have one excellent night on Maui.  If you want to make a day of it, you may even choose to snorkel in the bay or take a drive along North Maui and find some hiking spots to the ocean.

A big thank you to the staff at Seahouse.  You made it a great experience.

Wow.

Our honeymoon is going well, in case you wondered.  My wife and I are in Maui and having a blast and we will be back soon.  Thanks for the congratulatory emails everyone!  I’ve even got a restaurant review from one or two places in Maui.

More to come!

I do.

So today’s the big day.  Olivia is with the bridesmaids getting all made up, the groomsmen are all up and primping (pimping?) themselves up, and I am alone in my motel room, awaiting “go time” to head to the church.

While a marriage is essentially a union between two people, its is also much more than that to me.  To me, its also a celebration of the relationships that have inspired you to get married in the first place.  Maybe its friends that share a wonderful life together or parents that have been married for 35+ years, or a grandmother who remembers her late husband like he is still with her..whatever inspired a person to commit their life to someone else should be celebrated.

Our friends and our family (old and new) will be with us today as we say our vows.  As the words “I do” pass my lips, it will do so because of the inspiration others have provided to us over they years.  Because of them, we can commit to each other and start the new chapter in our lives..as husband and wife, and as a family of three with Olivia.  Hopefully she, through her mom’s wedding 5 years ago and ours, will also find inspiration in love (years down the road, I hope..).
